This is a spectacular house with lots of rich history, and an equally impressive garden. There are signs leading up to Filoli as you approach it, so it’s hard to miss. It’s around half a mile or so drive from the main road until the house.
The ticket is 25 dollars per person for adults, and there’s ample free parking. We visited on a Sunday in November, and it was decently busy. The house is expansive, and it takes you through history, and the staff does an excellent job of ensuring that you feel what people who lived here once felt. The kitchens, the dumbwaiter, the antique television and other items—all of it is quite invaluable, and provides an equally invaluable peek into history.
The gardens outside are great as well, and the various vibrant colours took our breath away. I can imagine it only getting better in spring. There’s a cafe called “Quail Cafe” where you can buy coffee and other food items and the restrooms are right next to the cafe. Both the cafe and the restrooms are located inside the visitor center. The vegetable garden is wonderful too.
It took us around 2-2.5 hours to explore the house and garden, and it’s an experience to savour. We will be back here again.
Fall is in the air! I enjoyed a peaceful day in the gardens. The weather was pleasant with a gentle breeze and comfortable temperatures. I came on a day when it was less crowded which is early in the week. If you arrive early, you have a better chance of having the gardens practically to yourself but it tends to be more brisk outside. But you'll find good parking. I recommend the gentle hike on the Estate Trail during your visit. It's a mile loop. So bring good walking shoes with decent tread on the soles. You won't regret it. And if need be, use walking sticks as I've seen some do. It's an easy trail for the most part. 🍂
Beautiful gardens and historic home to tour and enjoy for a day’s outing. Gorgeous flowers and flora with plenty of history lessons in the self-guided tour of the main house. The cafe is pleasant and offers some healthy choices along with plenty of snack options, salads, and sandwiches. Throughout the grounds, there are plenty of places to sit, relax, and enjoy the scenery.
If you're ever in San Francisco. I highly recommend it. The gardens are yes fabulous. It was phenomenal, peaceful, gorgeous.
The place is well taken care off. The flowers are beautiful!!! 😍 Just spontaneous as soon as you walk in. This staff is welcoming.
I love the turkeys. Walking in and when I walked out.
We visited for the Christmas event.Beautiful historic house. The gardens are amazing. I hope to visit back in Spring when the flowers are blooming.
The event was well set up and flow of traffic through each room was easy. Decorations were astounding throughout.
We felt safe with the mask mandate. All staff and attendees were compliant.
Very excited that they had a Black Santa.
