Accidentally found when tasked to drop off a buddy around the corner. Pleased to find a distraction. MID-MARCH "Open Cockpit" that is expected to be totally fun.
**make the time**
I had a great experience here. I spent over an hour here filming and taking photos. Really enjoyed every moment. Very friendly staff
Top tier aviation museum! It's clear that the curators and staff care about aviation and its history, both globally and locally to Oakland/Alameda, very deeply... I would highly recommend this museum to any person (children, adults, handicapped, etc.)
If you like aviation this is the place for you.
If you want to know more about the aviation history of Oakland and the West Coast in general this is the place for you.
It is a small, local operation with not so many planes available, but we still spent two hours there.
There is a great Tomcat pinball machine available. Yes, I know you can do better in the Pinball museum in Alameda, but it was still fun.
You can learn a lot about local aviators from areas which are the main focus.
There are a couple military planes on display, with heavy focus on Navy planes from carriers.
You can also see some weird stuff from local companies (Bay Area for you).
Fun place to spend part of the weekend.
We enjoyed it.
Hiller museum in San Carlos, close to SFO is bigger and better if you want comparison.
Cool aviation museum. Love all the airplanes and things for kids to do. They got models of all the navy planes in one room !! Lots of aviation history here!! A room dedicated to woman pilots and astronauts. A replica of the 1st airplane glider !! Fun place to visit for all ages. Great gift shop too . Take a tour on Sundays of the airplane that was in the Indiana Jones movie . Raiders of the lost ark !! Its a extra fee but well worth it !!
