(March 27, 2023, 7:59 pm)What a pleasant surprise this trail was! I found it through Alltrails because I wanted something close to home but also a bit on the adventurous side, plus a challenge & beautiful scenery. This trail delivered that!
Pro: Waterfalls everywhere! Streams galore! Lot's of climbing involved. Paved stairs for steep incline. It feels like a fairytale.
Con: About .3mi in the path was completely gone lol So we got creative and climbed along the wall onto the other side. It wasn't terrible but then again, I've hiked more questionable trails before. I will say, if you bring your pet with you, make sure they're not skittish because I can be intimidating.
Once we got passed all the questionable erosion, the rest of the trail was fine. A few holes in the trail here & there so watch your foot. I would highly advise to to be distracted during this trail as it requires your full attention.
On Alltrails you can search for York trail Leona Heights & it'll show you a map of where to go. The end of this trail led us to breathtaking views of Oakland which made all that trekking even more worth it! -

(August 19, 2021, 9:41 pm)Quick way to feel like you're in a whole different city. Dog friendly, fun hike.
It's a bit steep and broken up in places, lots of uneven rocks and tree roots in the trail.
This is not a good place if you have limited mobility or recent joint injuries. They're drop offs that could break a hip or worse. -

(August 10, 2019, 10:26 am)This is one of the more wild parks in the East Bay. Trails are narrow and often plunge steeply down into the creek on one side. There are no handrails.
After a harrowing experience with three small children on a muddy path one day, I didn't go back for years. I'm glad I did. It is quiet enough to hear the sound of water. It is shady with the perfect amount of light filtering through the towering branches of old redwoods.
