Black Mountain via Rhus Ridge is a 9.2-mile moderate to difficult level out and back trail. The parking lot at the trailhead is very small. There are only 8 or so spots available. There are no nearby areas where you can park and walk to the trailhead. So try to reach early in the morning to get the parking spot. The beginning section is steep but it gets gradual as you go on. Most of the trail is shaded except near the summit. There are good views of the bay area on the way back and a glimpse of the ocean from the summit. We took 4.5 hrs to complete the hike. Overall nice hike and quite a workout :)

Beautiful hike with sharp inclines and high elevation. Leads to Black Mountain.

Great hike. It's about a mile uphill to the main "crossroads" up in the mountains with all the views.

Beautiful trail starts out on the cool valley and then becomes steep as it rises quickly up the ridge. A viewpoint is reached about half way up. At the top it connects with other trails. Beautiful views and meadows with deer.
