Another gem in the bay area. There are so many ways to explore this beautiful park/mountain. One can drive all the way to the summit and get 360 views of the bay or simply park by the entrance and enjoy picnic with friends and families.
We have been here dozen times and every-time we find new ways to explore this park.
Make sure to pay entrance fee @ the gate.
This time we drove all the way up to the Radio road and hiked all the way to the end( part of Ridge Trail). It was almost six miles roundtrip. Make sure to bring some windproof as the weather can be little unpredictable up in the mountain. The hike is relatively easy and eye pleasing. Perfect hike with perfect views.
We are privileged to live in a such a beautiful state and lucky enough to be in the best part of the state..Bay area...
The San Bruno mountains close to hwy 101 is a comfortable hike offering a panoramic view of the Pacific ocean, San Francisco and the bay with a single glance from the summit trail.
Other trails such as the ridge view are also beautiful .
If you're looking for a great hike, or really some amazing views that give you basically a 360°, bay, Pacific Coast, city, there's nothing better. Maybe one other place I've been that's close and that's the Marin headlands.
I've been walking and hiking the Bay area for many years, and this was exhilarating. I also had the added bonus of walking the path on the mountain without any other people. That was a unique incredible experience here in the Bay area. Solitude!!!!
It is a nice, easy and very relaxing trail. The trail is well maintained, wide, paved and good shades along the way. It is about 3 miles round trip, not steep (very much flat most of the way). It is very green considering the recent drought in California but somehow the trees are very green and healthy. Also there are so many wild berry bushes along the trail and make it more interesting. We saw couple coyotes from the distance but they are kind of shying away from us. I think by end of August to mid September there will be plenty of ripe black berries on this trail. We live in Southern California, otherwise we would come back here again in a month or so to enjoy those wild berries.
Also there is some quarry mine at the end of the trail, not too sure what they are mining and if it is still actived.
Elevated panoramic hiking trails with a small picnic area and restroom in the front. $6 parking fee. Very serene and tranquil with sparse landscape up top but the bottom is the exact opposite filled with tall trees and wide trails.
