Rose Hill Cemetery

One of my favorite N Cal parks. Beautiful with CA history. Watch out for rattlesnakes. I put a photo of one I found next to a family plot in Rose Hill Cemetery in this listing's photo collection.

Moderate uphill walk. Nice views of the valley but windy. Many desecrated burial places.

Great historical info of the people who once lived there. If you read the bulletin located un the area you discover why, whom lived there and what illness the dies from since everyone in the era died in about the same time frames of each other. Thankfully we have the vaccines now that killed them in the 1800's. Also some of the residents died from mining unfortunately. Most of the residents buried here are from Wales intresting enough. Its intresting times for Contra Costa back in the 1800's. Park rangers are very active in this location which is nice for safety precautions. Lots of free parking and levels trails to walk even on the inclines it's easy on the ankels. Great for walking dogs. Lots of historical things if you stop & read about the land.

I've been coming here since 1975, the first time was with my dad. I was 5 years old and the area was not under the EBRP jurisdiction at that time.
My friends and I hiked there after hearing the story of the white wItch and old abandoned mines. We were about 5-7 years old. When I returned home from our adventurous excursion, my mom was frantic and upset with me.😩😖
We would still sneak out to Black Diamond, especially if it was foggy.
Beautiful area full of rich history and fun memories for me.

Nice hike for family with young children. The hill gets more steep as you get closer. My 3 year old got to the top with nearly no problems.
