Mission Peak Trail Head

What a great place to get fit! What an intense climb! Great elevation! There’s a wonderful view of Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay as a reward at the summit! I go there a few times a week, and it’s always a calm and pleasant hike! It is a great workout for both me and my dog! The park is open daily from 6:30 am to 9:00 pm. Dogs are allowed on leash. I’ve tried sunrise, midday, sunset and after dark and each day Mission Peak never disappoints! The summit is about 4 miles from the Stanford Avenue staging area parking lot. It’s very serene and peaceful at the top with breathtaking views. There was such good energy among the people there, who politely took turns taking photos. Mission Peak is now one of my absolute favorite hikes in the Bay Area!

I went with my son and a couple of his friends. The hike itself is doable for an average person. I went up to the third bench. Nice view from the top. Maybe since I went on a first time hike in some 50 years gap, I found it took my breath away. But yes I enjoyed it.

Hiking up the Mission Peak trail is a fun and good way to lose weight!!! I've been hiking this trail many times and it has never disappointed me.
The trail itself is 6 miles out & back, with around 2,200 ft of elevation gain. Please note that 99.9% of this trail is exposed to the sun, so this hike is best done at either sunset or sunrise to avoid the heat ...
It was a fun hike, a little steep yet with incredible views.
I highly recommend this trail to everyone as it all starts with taking one step at a time & then just keep moving forward!!!

Wonderful, steep hike with amazing views. Kiddos will complain but I saw some can make it at least part way. Parking is tight but plenty in the neighborhood below. Steep! But it’s really a fire road, not a trail so it’s not technical. About an hour brisk hike to the peak.

Nice trail. Very steep. Went up via Mission Peak and came down via Peak Meadow. Around 6 miles total hike, I was able to finish in 1 hr 45 min with occasional running. Hike scenery was very good overlook of the city as well as meadows where cattle graze.
