In February 2020, I suffered a schizophrenic mental breakdown here on this small but beautiful public park in downtown Redwood City. I had gone two weeks without sleep while desperately trying to get a job at Google. I was so exhausted after four years of being unemployed that my breaking point was reached that afternoon underneath the redwoods here. A sympathetic bystander called 911 on my behalf, and a San Mateo County motorcycle office arrived to ensure that I was not in danger of harming myself or others. Then, a special police van arrived to escort me to a nearby behavioral crisis center. It saved my life. Now, when I return to this park, all I feel is calmness and serenity. I am so glad for public parks like this and for well trained and professional police officers who know how to deescalate situations that otherwise could go terribly wrong. I am a white gender non-binary person born male, and maybe that helped. But all I know is this place is sacred ground to me.
In Redwoodcity I found a place perfect for little kids, and is quite and has as big shade from the wonderful trees.
Whoa, Dad, Ma, look at the WW II M-5 Stuart tank! Any kid will revel in the patriotism of this park even if it's not the 4th of July. The expansive park is ideal for skateboarding, parties, exercising little ones on the play structure, strolling with dogs or families. Go back time, read up on some history, and appreciate how far America has come and how every neighborhood should have a park to call their own. This is a chance to get some shots in (basketball), walk around, get the circulation moving!
Found this park by chance and really liked the play structures. We went back with both our kids so they can enjoy. The playground is suited for younger kids which is perfect for our family.
There is a seesaw here if you’re looking for one and this tank by the corner which you might miss coz it’s a tinsy bit far from the playground.
Had fun at this first anual gathering. Food trucks, inflatable pub and live music. Fun for all ages. Families aplenty.
