Heritage Grove

This is a redwood grove down a side road with parking for MAYBE 7 cars. The grove itself is a comfortable place with wonderful trees, ferns and other vegetation. Great for a short stop and maybe a picnic. Kids are happy and safe there. If you're in the mood for more hiking, two trails are right there. One to the Sierra Club Hiker's Hut, (no bathroom, yes water) about a mile uphill. The other to the main Sam McDonald Park parking lot (with bathrooms and services) a tad under two miles away. To go on one trail and come back on the other is about 4 miles of intermediate hiking and good workout. I suggest going uphill first. The downhill grade will be softer passing the horse corral about half way. (Which also has nice bathrooms). That loop is at least a couple hours.

The Heritage Grove is a great place to visit within Sam McDonald Park and the hike up to the Hiker's Hut is well worth it. The grove and surrounding trees are incredible to hike through and the hiker hut and views from the ridge of the surrounding forest is amazing on a clear day.

Mostly a shaded hike until you go further out, and still there's lot of shade areas. Tough Hike in the beginning just FYI (FOR people that aren't used to hiking) Be prepared. Stretch out and Bring water! You'll enjoy beautiful scenery and wildlife all around. 🦊🦔🐿🐍

Nice, but humid cold hike. The trail is narrow and beautifully situated within the dense forest. Avoid following the boring fire road. A bit muddy in spots two days after the rain. Beautiful view of the ocean when up on the hill

Great little redwood hike. This area of Sam Macdonald park sees few visitors, so its a great spot for some quiet meditation beneath these giant trees. Also, the turnout has free parking, unlike the main parking lot
