Cataract Falls

Gorgeous hike nestled in the trees that take you to a beautiful collection of waterfalls. I started my hike from the rock spring trailhead south and then headed up to cataract falls from there! Took around 2 hours and it was a fairly easy hike until you get closer to the waterfall when it gets steeper. I love how the trail follows and weaves through a river. There are also so many cool mushrooms from all the moisture :)

Nice, Quite small trail for beginners. Kids friendly. Not many people around so you can have the spots next to waterfalls all by yourself. Would recommend proper hiking shoes since the trail has some steep terrain sections.

Getting there can be little too much for some people with so many twists and turns on a narrow road(depending which road you take). Also parking is very limited. Trail is well maintained and is fairly an easy hike to the falls, but it can be challenging going uphill as the trail continues. We just did a short hike up to the falls! It was simply relaxing being in the nature.

Parking will be hard if you park by the dam/lake..take a drive a bit further for trails at the top. But if you do get the chance or space to park after the dam. You’ll find some portable outhouses near the lake/fall trails. To bad when we went it was a bit dry, small cataract falls but the hikes were great!!! Expect stairs and you’ll get a good feel of nature breeze, at least when I went. 👌 best to come visit these falls a little after a rain, I’d advise to check on the forecast.

One of the best hiking trails a couple days after a heavy rain storm in Mount Tamalpais from Rock Spring.
It could get very crowded on weekend as the trail is very narrow and steep/steps at times.
Must bring your own water and snack. A very few public bathrooms so best plan things better.
Part of fire road has been taken over a wide and shallow creek that passes through.
