Nice knowledgeable volunteers explaining about the ship and WW2. The ship is very well maintained. Highly recommended stop if you're visiting Vallejo
Hidden gem for the WW2 history lovers.
This ship is one of the few and only survivors from the Pacific theater. It was directly involved and provided fire support along with thr destroyers to intercept and shoot down Kamikaze planes before they reached the main group of capital ships at anchor while at Okinawa. LCS 102 also laid smoke screens and stood suicide boat and swimmer watches.
The ship has been lovingly restored by the Navy veterans(we loved a very personal and fascinating tour by Dave Wood) who also provide amazing free tours. Entry is free but a donation would be greatly appreciated to maintain this piece of history.
A historic WW2 boat, the only one of its kind in the world.
Gordon gave me a fantastic tour. Very thorough and answers any questions you have. Its the most hands on tour I've been on. Go check it out and support them.
I had no idea, and I call myself a Maritime professional?
This is a hidden gem on the mare island strait. This is a fantastic attraction for locals and tourists alike. visit this ship and get a behind-the-scenes tour, deep into the bowels of a world war war ship. And this is no ordinary worship. It's ultra-small and super powerful.
The grandson of an LCS crew member and the grandfather himself will greet you at the ship's brow. You will visit everything from the pilothouse to the engine room. You will see crew bunk rooms and and the mess-hall / dining room. you'll even get to see their small combat information center. There they have some of the original radio equipment.
