I hiked to Sunol Peak from Tyler Ranch Staging Area via Sunol Ridge Trail. I enjoyed watching the spectacular scenery of the San Francisco Bay area while hiking on the Sunol Ridge Trail including but not limited to Sunol Peak, Mt Diablo, Amador Valley, Livermore Valley, Maguire Peak (not the Maguire Sub-peak), Flag Hill Summit, several Sunol Regional Wilderness trails, Niles Canyon, CA SR-238 Bridge/Union Pacific Railroad Bridges/BART Bridge across Alameda Creek, Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area, Shinn Pond, Kaiser Pond, Blunting Pond, Coyote Hills Regional Park, Santa Cruz Mountains, Dumbarton Bridge/San Mateo-Hayward Bridge across San Francisco Bay, Mission Peak, Mount Allison, Apperson Ridge, Wauhab Ridge, Valpe Ridge, and Lick Observatory atop Mt Hamilton.
2 hours hike, difficulty level :low, nice weather. Good for weekend hike
I revisited this park after a few year.
It was still peaceful and relaxing as before. The beautiful mature olive groves give this park an unique look and feel. I will return soon.
Been going here for 9 years now, at least once a week. Can get busy on the weekends and totally quiet on the weekdays. It is a huge park that has a creek and a waterfall during the rainy seasons. For the most part it is wide open and exposed but if you go over the ridge and down to the canyon, trees galore and solitude but be prepared to climb back up, again. Nice and green during the rainy season and pretty much golden during the summer. Use the outhouses prior to your hike or bike because you will only have bushes and trees for your convenience. Bring lots of water and a snack, there is a climb from both staging areas, Foothill or Castleridge. Pick up after your pups and watch out for rattle snakes.
Super cool place for hiking with family and friends! Loved it. The hike is some what steep but manageable. Some portion of the Oak tree trail does not have trees which could be an in super hot sunny day. The view from the top is super majestic. Dogs and bikes are allowed on the trail, so be careful while walking. Over all my experience was super positive and I would definitely recommend it. It is an awesome place.
