Hatha Garden Yoga

One my favorite yoga teachers started a new class on Saturday morning in Crockett*.

I was taking yoga with Alisha's very popular Saturday morning yoga class at the Downtown Berkeley YMCA off and on for while, before the pandemic.

Alisha teaches hatha yoga, She brings an inviting compassion, playful humor and she demonstrates in her teaching style an intuitive flexibility (I know, I know), with her invitations to movement, that feel welcoming to all levels and manner of bodies. Since I'm an over-60 person with an old knee injury I really appreciate her empathy and attention to her students' care.

The outdoor class is in downtown Crockett in a space with lots of beautiful house plants.

Alisha is a thoughtful yoga teacher who brings joy and energy to her classes. I always leave feeling refreshed and more in touch with my health and well being. Not once have I ever hurt myself in her classes-- no small feat for an impatient man in his 60s who started with not a lot of flexibility! Patience and intelligence and attention to the specific needs of her students are all qualities that come to mind when thinking about the many classes I have taken with her. If I could give a 6th star here I would!

Some of my most transcendent moments have been on the mat in one of Alisha’s classes. Alisha leads deeply healing classes that have always helped me reset my nervous system and get into my body. I highly recommend practicing with this exceptional Yoga teacher in a unique and magical environment.

Alisha offers yoga above and beyond what most other teachers can - or maybe I should say beyond what others even know! Alisha knows the depth of what true yoga is and that makes her special!! Yoga is helping the body be healthy and strong through the postures - but the deeper/esoteric purpose of yoga is to become calm in mind, body and spirit - and Alisha knows that!!! And, she teaches that!! So, sure, you get very accurate instruction about the postures but it's under the umbrella of deeper knowledge and expanded self awareness!!! If you haven't been to a class with Alisha, go and find out how wonderful it is!!!

Alisha is an expert yoga teacher. She adapts each pose for each person’s level with ease. It’s okay if you’re entry level or competent. Everyone’s needs are met and she makes everyone feel comfortable. It’s a wonderful class. And it’s a lovely environment.
