Candlestick Point State Recreation Area

Today, it was beautiful, green with yellow wildflowers. Hawks, egrets, buffleheads, squirrels and birds. A few people here and there enjoying the day. It was peaceful. The access is closed off on both ends of the road leading around the Candlestick Park stadium area because of the homeless encampments that grew out of control. The encampments have been removed I saw today but here and there are noticeable artifacts left behind, a few carpets, glass, some odds and ends by the road, but not much. So you will need to park in the parking lot across from the newer condos close to 101 and walk in. It looks like there was a bit of vandalism over the last year or so and the restrooms are not open. Some of the small bridges are falling apart and in need of repair. There was a port-o-let though at the end by the fishing pier. So it is a little spooky as its desolate. But its a stunning area and I'm sure the Hunters Point folks are looking forward to it being revitalized and they can once again enjoy their park. Its a shame its in such a state, I am sure the residents in the area really had to push to get it developed in the first place to the beautiful open space it is and to see it falling apart was sad. But regardless of this brief moment of disrepair, its really something. And in a way, the fact that you can't drive into it makes it remarkable because its sort of wild and remote and clean inside. Hundreds of bulbs have been planted and work on the fallen trees from this last storm are being removed. Though the area where the stadium was is a total eyesore, as are the barriers, its easy to be turned off to it but really I highly recommend a visit or a short walk. The park is beautiful, the views are amazing. You really can't go wrong.

It's a real good place for a nice picnic if you have a big family it has a lot of room for that and we use the picnic there but fine back in the 90s we should picnic back there and fish back there but we catch a release we didn't eat it in the bag but if you want to catch stripers you can catch stripers around here do you like to catch a release and if you play soccer or football they got a nice big feel for that

Candlestick is a hidden gem of a State Park in SF with beautiful bay views and lots of natural wildlife. There's lots of shoreline trails, native plants, picnic tables, and BBQS. I love to walk my dog around the park and see all the birds, and even spot some harbor seals! They have lots of adorable native ground squirrels around the park, so dogs should be on leash. And they occasionally do community events, and trash cleanups.
*The trailer issue that they had a year ago is cleaned up and they opened up their parking lots, free to the public everyday.
