Anthony Chabot Regional Park

Beautiful campgrounds. Saw tons of goats on a hill coming into the park. Some narrow and steep areas that can make it difficult to maneuver with a big trailer. Make sure you are out on time, they will call you and start clearing up your site before your gone. They will also let you know at the gait when you're leaving to drive it in deeper. Never have experienced that in all the years we have camped for. Typically don't try to leave late but this park is a distance away from where my mom originates from and we were traveling back from Pacifica and we are not used to traffic you find around San Francisco. Once we drive off a travel van took over our camp hours before check in, sure they were not scolded.

Been coming here for over 30 years. Hiking, walking, running, mountain biking, fishing, exploring. Great views, and wildlife! Plenty of pavement but it does not go fully around the lake. The backside is dirt trails. Be aware hiking around the lake is over 9 miles so make sure you have at least 4 hours and plenty of water/snacks/lunch. The biking trails are longer than that (more like 14-18 miles depending on trails you choose) because bikes are not allowed on some of the hiking trails marked Hiking Only! Pet friendly but please PICK UP after your dog. Leaving the waste in a bag on the side of the trail is not considered being a responsible pet owner. Use a trash can for waste where it belongs.

This is an under rated East Bay Regional Park. Great trails and variety. Around much of the lake is a nice paved trail good for kids biking, but wonderful, adventurous trail running between the lake and Redwood Regional Park with ridges and gullies and grassy meadows, stands of oak, redwoods, cypress, and more. Regular sightings of hawks, turkeys, coyotes, rabbits, and more. Great for mountain biking

Anthony Chabot Regional Park is a great park to visit to go hiking or biking, or simply spend the day with family. More crowded on weekends and holidays, but kind of a hidden lake and a large park for the Bay Area since it is so close. There are miles of hiking and biking trails and the further away you get from the main entrance the less crowded it becomes. There are also secondary parking areas around the perimeter of the park for those that want to avoid the crowds. The main entrance has paid parking within the park and there is also plenty of street parking just outside of the park. Well worth a visit and can easily spend a full day here if you choose.

It's a great camping area in the Bay Area. It takes 1 hour driving from San Jose where I am at. But some of the camp sites are little bit off the main road so you have to walk to get there. Recommend bring your wagon that would be helpful, otherwise you will have your muscle built-up by carrying stuff.
