Absolutely perfect. Really fun spot with a very thoughtful menu and fun delicious takes on a lot of fresh plates! Perfect cocktails and friendly staff made for the best birthday evening. We will be back asap. The palettas, the oysters and the elote are all a must.
Interesting place. They have good new perspective on Mexican food that we liked. The place is good. They have table outside and are pet friendly. The tortillas are amazing. The elote was great. And the Beef was the best part great flavor, perfectly cooked and juicy. curiously the Tacos were not the best part.
What a nice place! If I was to RE-judge previous restaurants based on this place hardly anyone would get a 5-star. The cumulation of the food, service, ambiance and pricing makes this place an absolute gem.
Now for my disclaimer: this is definitely for open minded foodies. We like to eat and next to our mortgage food is the next greatest expense so please come here with an open mind, heart and appetite.
Let's start with cocktails. We prefer stronger flavors so preferred the La Fogata over the El Milpero, but both were well executed. For the second one we asked for something that wasn't on the menu. The bartender, David, came out, spoke with us and made a specialty drink we loved!!!
As for appetizers, the broiled oyster, grilled cheese and corn ribs were excellent. The corn ribs were spicy and my mouth was burning, but they were so good I couldn't stop eating them.
The main dish of duck and steak brought this place back down to earth. Both had great flavor, but the duck was slightly overcooked and the steak was tough.
Dessert was unique, but flavorful and well executed. I'd say a must try and make up your mind type of thing.
Other positives were the owners were present and interacting with patrons, they have their own parking lot as well as outdoor seating and it's in an up and coming neighborhood.
Great find on San Jose’s Eastside. Craft cocktails and an eclectic menu provides a refreshing take in the midst of the numerous Mexican restaurants in San Jose. Duck confit leg with pistachio is one of their highlights. Start your meal with a well balanced cocktail. I opted for the la fogata and muy del dia. Both bourbon based drinks which tickled the palate. Try the house made corn tortillas which are freshly prepared. Addictive!
Decided to try out the new restaurant in town, I really wanted to like it, give it 5 stars but it couldn’t get there.
First it’s a small location, cozy, modern and definitely not a chain restaurant kind of place. Love it, plus drinks are yummy, unique and very good. Also some great staff!
Two, it offers a good different high class kind of Latino/Mexican food menu. Stuff I haven’t seen before. For the location, I think it’s not right for the price they charge per plate though. Don’t get me wrong, it’s delicious! But this restaurant belongs in Santana Row, The Pruneyard or on the Alameda to compete with Luna for what it’s offering.
Price, yes it is very expensive for plate size. Simple as that. Expect paying easily $150+ with a few drinks but not being entirely “full”.
Kudos for inventive thinking here, but I think it’s a very out of place for location.
